About the Founder

Sara Silva founded Minority Financial Power – MIFIPOWER in 2025, but the work began 20 years earlier.

For two decades, Sara has been teaching financial literacy in her community — workshops on budgeting, credit, banking, and homeownership, much of it paid for out of her own pocket long before MIFIPOWER existed as a nonprofit. She started because she saw, year after year, how a lack of financial knowledge — and outright predatory practices — stripped hardworking families of what they’d earned.

That conviction became an organization. Based in Oakland, California, MIFIPOWER now offers financial literacy workshops, banking access guidance, credit building and repair, entrepreneurial support, emergency savings programs, homeownership preparation, fraud prevention, and one-on-one financial coaching for minority and underserved communities.
